Instax Minis.....

Lately I've been thinking of buying a camera again. Though not the digital type. I thought of buying a lomo camera, they are really cute and unique, but thier prices don't really cooperate with my pockets.... So I thought of buying a Fuji Instax mini, either the 7s or the 25.

The Instax Mini 7s is the old version and it's more manual as you need to pop open the lens to turn it on. It's also more limited in terms of setting options -- it has only four. It's bulky but it looks cuter and bubblier (I especially love the Hello Kitty one!) than a 25 and it's cheaper, so on terms of price my pocket will do just fine.

Instax Mini 7s (Hello Kitty Version)

The Instax Mini 25 is the latest version and is fully automatic. It has more setting options, a macro lens and a mirror for those photogenic people. It's compact but not as cute as a 7s and lil' bit more expensive. I just love the Hello Kitty one (again), it's so cute and makes the camera look less like a MacD toy. You can find out more about the two here.

Instax Mini 25 (Hello Kitty Version)

Also both run on batteries, so just incase you run out of energy, just go to the nearest convenience store no need to go home to charge it. So I was ready to save my money for one of these babies since they cost less than SGD ( Singapore Dollars) 100, but after I did some more research.... The film costs more than the camera if you look at it at a long term perspective. The films cost roughly SGD12 for a pack of 10pcs.   So saying that the camera costs SGD100 and I take 100 pictures then it'll cost me SGD120 for those pictures! It's such a rip off. So I'm going to be staying with my digital cameras.

So if you're thinking of buying of one of these cuties up there, think again, is it really worth it? But it's sooo cute! I can't believe my sis is still thinking of buying this. At least I'll save up for something more meaningful for the hoilidays.....

Just one last thing.... Here's a song that I've been listening to constantly (in my head and the computer). It's in mostly English and some Tamil.

Bye for now and may the odds be ever in your favour (Am I going too far in this?)

Bees and Game

Katniss Everdeen Costumes (source)
I'm hooked. Now I that I've started reading The Hunger Games, I can't stop myself. I managed to finish the book in just two days. But that took hours of reading, non-stop. Every chance that I got - whether in a moving car or right after arriving at home - I read the book. Let me tell you it's been quite some time since a book got me so intrigued. I'm a bookworm, so yes it's natural for me to curl up on the bed with a book opened wide. But The Hunger Games is different, it's got everything (say it in your head like you mean it) all intertwined in a book perfectly. If the movie is successful (which I think will be) it will be like a HP thing. Maybe, maybe not and crazy HP fans don't beat me up here if you don't agree. I just hope the movie includes Katniss shooting an arrow at the apple in the pig's mouth and putting flowers on Rue's body. Or else I'll be very disappointed.  Very. You'll know what I mean if you've read the book. The most emotional part of the book is Rue's (SPOILER ALERT) death. She's my favourite character besides Katniss.

Sometimes I wonder if in the future a similar version of Panem lies there. If it's there, well I hope I wouldn't be part of it. It scares me to think a group of people would be so powerful enough to be able to through a bunch of kids to murder each other. But it's all fictional, right? I just hope the series doesn't just ends at the third book. There's more surely. I hope so. These three books will definitely be in my permanent collection of books, now... where should I buy them....

Okay... going back to the present reality... Just yesterday a swarm of bees attacked our school during sports practice. Sports practice was just finishing and by this time the afternoon sun was high and glaring on us, it was very hot for winter. So, of course, there was excitement as to escape the heat then the coordinator starts yelling into her mic "Get down everybody! Get down!". My best friend and I weren't sitting where the others were, which are on the steps, so we didn't realize it until the coordinator started screaming, "Protect yourselves!". We thought it was another one of her relaxation exercises, but no.

The swarm was more like a black cloud, one that was hovering most of the students at school. You can literally hear their distinctive buzzing sound, ringing in your ear, that's when I pushed my friend down telling her to cover herself. By the time we were down I peeped from under my arms, there I saw maybe a hundred or so bees flying over us. Then it was over.

Well that's it for now, may the odds ever be in your favour.

Brimming with Books

Hello there! Kinda being sneaky here suppose to be studying for a test now on the computer... everyone else is the room so no one knows! :P Feeling very warm now up all snuggled up in my mom's new snuggle blanket which looks like this:

I'm using one in the same colour. It's all cosy and warm and I can even type with it without even sacrificing my comfort! So now I can type normally on a chair, no gloves so it's not difficult to type, just all warm snuggly with my music blasting.

I'm jumping up and down crazily (inside, mentally, since I did that for real yesterday), I've finally got a library card! Hehehehehe...... We don't what you call a national library here so I've got sign up for one myself. I actually have to share it with my sister but it's under my name. Is it important? Very. Why? Cause I'm just crazy about having one, possessive about it, maybe but it's mine baby! All MINE!!! Just joking... hehehehhehe

When I'm on my own I'll have a huge library, brimming with books until it spills on the floor. The shelves will be painted light pale colours and there will be a huge window to let the sun shine through so it'll be light and airy. It'll be the highlight of my house. But for now I  only have a small collection of books, ok maybe not small it takes up most of one wall in my art room, but it's only a small percentage of what I'll own in the future.

I've got three books from the library and one from the school's library. I've read 1/4 and I can't wait to read! I'll usually have my head stuck in a book if I'm not studying. I'll read for hours if I can, I go into another world when I read, reality blurs with my book's fantasy. It makes me forget about everything. Anyways the books are:

Hetty Feather by Jacqueline Wilson

Roll up, Roll up
For the amazing tale of Hetty Feather
Gasp as she is abandoned as a baby
Shudder at the hardship she suffers
wonder at her search for her real mother

It's basically about a girl in Victorian times, she's an orphaned child supposedly destined to be a servant. By the looks of it, it looks like a good read. Then again anything Jacqueline Wilson writes is truly wonderful.

The Granny Project by Anne Fine

Blackmail -- or negotiation?
Mum and Dad reckon things would be better if Granny were in a Home.
The kids all want her to stay.
Ivan's Granny Project should make his parents think again.
But there's more than one way of doing a project -- and blackmail can work two ways...

Anne Fine is a fine writer. No joke. Most of her stories are really vivid. My sister is reading this one and I've looked through it and it's certainly is funny. A good one.

Cherry Crush by Cathy Cassidy

Cherry Costello's life is about to change forever.
She and Dad are moving to Somerset where a new mum and a bunch of brand-new sisters await.

And on Cherry's first day there she meets Shay Fletcher; with suntanned skin and sea-green eyes he's the kind of boy who should carry a government health warning sign.

But Shay already has a girlfriend, Cherry's new stepsister Honey.
Cherry knows her friendship with Shay is dangerous -- it could destroy everything.
But hat doesn't mean she's going to stay away from him...

I think I just fell in love with Cathy's book. Again. It's soooo good. Yes please I would want another one to read! The blurb is very self explanatory as you can see. This book is the first book of the chocolate box girl series.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
(Oh God, what a loooong blurb!)

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with every one out to make sure you don't live to see the morning?

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.
16 year old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to death before and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But of she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and live against love.

According to the back it's set in the future and by the looks of the movie trailer it's going to be fantastic read.

Arrgh..hands tired now...

Back to normal

Warning Long Post! Listen to the the songs below to keep yourself company!

Hi everyone! It's been a long, no a seriously loooong, time since I've wrote anything. I've gone on a bit of a long holiday, haven't I? Well now everything's back to normal. I'm freezing in front of the computer, hands and feet turning numb, my body wrapped inside a blanket. I really, really, really want to tell you guys about my holiday but in the need to do that I must use the aid of pictures, which I need to load but don't have time to. Ahhh... it's nice to hear the sound of typing, which gets my brain going. All those weeks typing on the iPad silently, only the occasional hard tapping sound that comes out, makes my brain think ever so slow! I've been back here for a week and for the past week I've been doing catch up work since I missed a week of school to go (to America!).

The only warm room in my house is my parent's room, with their wooden furniture and floor and the two heaters. My sister and I sleep there for the winters as its way to cold anywhere else and putting all our heaters together and our own body heat will make the room extra cosy. If you're wondering, doesn't the central heating work? Well... we don't have one. Most houses here don't anyways. Here the houses are built for the heat blasting, drying summers, the marble floors and counters, the white walls, the thin curtains. So... my family and I spend most of our times in my parent's room. We do everything there, even eat, which is OK since no insects want to step on our marble floors. I knew going to my room will numb my body. I thought of typing on the iPad, but Bah! I've got to type it up in HTML, which is a programming language. I know HTML because of school, but the iPad makes it difficult switching from one keyboard to another.

Talking about school... sports day is in 2 weeks and just this Saturday we did a whole run through (yes, school on a Saturday?!). Though it's not really school since we didn't study. The coordinator commanded in the mike, "I want nothing else but PERFECTION or else OUT" . Yep, sure is real encouraging. We had to go shoeless (is there such a word) on the field, where it's muddy, to do our yoga. My socks got stained with mud. Eeck. After a few days I went without my socks to the field, as in barefoot, to not get my socks dirty. It went well, should have don't it before to! On Friday I tripped on one of the hurdles, I was neck and neck with my best friend to coming first but no! I tripped on the last hurdle as my shoe flinged off my feet, why? Because I was wearing one of mom's disposable socks, which turned out not so good for sports. I really wished I won! Never mind.

In other worlds... Just finished reading the book Little Darlings by Jacqueline Wilson. S.B lend it to me. It's my second favourite Jacky book after Lola Rose, which is just fantastic. I haven't read a Jacky book in ages. I'm so glad I did read one now, from now I'm starting a Jacky hunt.  Anyways back to Little Darlings... It's a great book since it shows the great contrast of two different lives and shows you the reality of a celebrity's life. You'll know what I mean when you read it. It's definitely on my must read list. It doesn't have an actual blurb but this is what it says on the official Jacqueline Wilson website:

The story of two girls who are worlds apart, but destined to be together . . .

Sunset lives a life of luxury with her beautiful ex-model mum, her world-famous ex-rocker dad and two little celeb siblings. But life on the red carpet is no compensation for rowing parents, constant nagging, intensive media scrutiny and no real friends.

Destiny, on the other hand, is an only child living on a rundown estate with a sickly but devoted mum who constantly tells her that she's really the daughter of a famous former rock star . . .

When the two girls meet in unlikely circumstances, they are surprised to find in each other something they've been missing all their lives . .
.
Jacky has got lots of new books out since I last read them. I really want to read Sapphire Battersea, Lily Alone and Cookie. The next one coming out is The Worst Thing About My Sister. Can't wait! I'll try to find the books in my library, but I doubt it, it's so small! :( I'll need to go to the shops to find them oh well!
I'll try to post at least once a week now! I'll try, my best.

(The List of songs can go down forever, but here a few! Enjoy!)

Bye!

New Years in America

Warning! Long post ahead! Slow down if you need to! Tell me if I should do the days on separate posts or if this is waaaayyyy tooooo long. Happy reading!

Happy New Year! I know it's kinda late but better late than never right? How did you spend your New Years? I spent mine sleeping in the back of a car driving to Tucson, Arizona. Not really an exciting way to set the tone for the rest of the year and sadly no fireworks  that I saw (yeah there were fireworks but I missed it). :( Gosh, I should've stayed awake!

I arrived in Tucson at around 1AM in the morning. Even though I got lots of Zs on the way, I was just too tired to stay awake. We were staying at a family friend's place. It's a really cosy place. The decorations are beautiful and they have so much art every where. Their house is full of them, especially Native American art.  It was like staying at a private gallery. My favourite piece of art are the Russian Eggs. I can't remember what they're called but they are just beautiful as its so intricate and delicate.

I slept right away as the bed was so comfortable. I don't know how it adjusted to my back so perfectly . It's so soft and the blanket too as well as warm. And the pillow was fluffy.... Zzzzz. (snores)

For the pass week I've really wanted to post my trip from the start but every time I started I had to do something else. Humph. But now since I'm on a road trip to Sedona and I've time on my side why not do this? So let's start from the landing in San Francisco.

Day 1 - Sunday, 25th Dec 2011

It was Christmas day in SF. It was a weird feeling as we left Singapore on a Christmas Day but time is  behind Singapore here, so it was as if we time travelled.

As I looked out of the window the sun was setting down, bursting to brilliant colours of reds, blues and oranges. Then after awhile it dipped into the velvet blue sky , only leaving behind a light strip of yellow on the horizon. We were just landing in a few minutes when the sky turned blue black. The anticipation of landing was endearing. It took so long, as if it was forever. I couldn't hold myself together, I was going to be in America, in US, within a few minutes.

We landed and entered the airport. The first thing I  noticed was that there were no plants in the airport. I wonder why. We went into immigration and the immigration officer wasn't too nice. He was plump and had a stern face.

Even though he looked serious he said  "Can you please wait a minute?" and took out a gallon of juice.

My sister and I couldn't help but giggle, hiding behind my dads back. We passed immigration and collected our baggage and went to The Westin Hotel.

The Westin Hotel in San Francisco is famous for its glass elevator, so we went up to the top floor on the elevator and saw the night skyline of San Francisco, which twinkled in the black sky. We were tired but we had to have dinner and so we went to the nearest diner.

It's  called the Pinecrest and it's the first American diner I went to. It was humble, cosy and warm.  The serving portions were so large! Everything was Super-sized from the normal Asian portions I got. The onion rings were the size of my wrist when usually it's the size of my finger! It should be called an onion bracelet. I was loving the Rueben, it's was juicy, tender and it had beef. We've no beef in India and this was the good stuff too! (licks lips)

Since we had some time left we explored a little. We went to the nearby Union Square and took photos of this gigantic Xmas tree with pretty fairy lights hugging it and decorations hanging off it. There was also an ice rink and a man playing soulful jazz on the trumpet. Theres also a big heart statue.  We went back to the hotel and Zzzz....

Day 2 - Monday, 26th Dec 2011

Long post right? Well.... I'm not done! Ready for Day 2? We did lots on this day! We started by going in a cable car after waiting in line for a loooong time. I sat on the outer part of the car, lucky me not squished in the inside. It was awesome! Wind in my hair as we were going down hill, the view was passing quickly. Then we went up hill, the same sensation except we were going a little slower.

We stopped at Fishermen's Wharf. There weren't a lot of people there since dense fog was covering the area. By the time we got here it was lunch time and we had lunch at McCormick's and Klutz's (I can't remember the name properly). It had really fresh and good seafood. One of the freshest I've ever got, then again the Bay was our beautiful unobstructed view. A place that I definitely recommend!   We saw people swimming in the water! Who would swim in deadly cold waters in winter? Crazy athletes that's who!  When we were finished... Guess what? The fog was gone, the sun was out and it was crawling with people.

So instead of going to the beach we went to Ghirardelli Square, which was basically just above the restaurant, around the corner. It's a small, cute, chic square, where the original Ghirardelli chocolate shop is. Before we went to the chocolate shop we looked around and went to Lola's, which is a cute little Knicks knack  store. I bought a travel log, which I'm reading right now for reference.

When we visited the chocolate shop area, it was just as jam packed as empty as the Sahara Desert with people. The actual shop was even more packed, with people using elbows to fight the crowd. I'm not that fond of chocolate, so I really wasn't keen on it. But I did find a 50 Ib chocolate bar interesting, which costed a ridiculous amount.

Then we went down to the beach and found many seagulls in the sand doing their stuff. Some even went into the water! They looked like weird, giant ducks floating. Lots of bikers were around as well as families and other people. It was buzzing. Next we walked to a bus station on the way we saw lots of tourists shops, cheap stores and tourists.

We headed to the Ferry Building next and bought ferry tickets to Sausalito, but soon we learnt that the ferry we were going is late in the evening so we didn't go. Instead we spent our time shopping in a kitchen shop called Sur la Table which means under the table in French. After that we walked all the way to See's, which is the chocolate and candy shop I told you about. Unfortunately, the shop closed minutes before we got there. So then our dad took us to a leather jacket shop. He wanted one since.... well the trip to America got planned. So he bought one and so did mom.

Then we went over to Macy's, which is one of the largest department stores I've been to. We went to the kids section and looked at the boots. I was really jumpy about this and... there was a sale, so I had more chances of getting one. The boot I really wanted was a UGG type boot, sand coloured with sheep wool in the inside. Too bad they didn't have my size and my sister got it instead. But, I did like another one which is dark brown, just below knee and no lining inside. So I got that one. I'm lovin' it! :) :) :) <3

After boot shopping we went back to the hotel and ate the same thing for dinner as yesterday.

Day 3 - Tuesday, 27th Dec 2011

Kinda woke up late this day. Since we didn't go to Sausalito yesterday, we went on this day. We took a taxi all the way to Sausalito. By now I've noticed that there weren't any  real malls with the shops clubbed together under one roof stacks on levels of floors in San Francisco. Instead they have individual shops lining the streets. I find this more interesting and better as it gives each shop more character and personality, a sense of individualism. Also it's healthier for people to walk, but they are some who just rather use their car to move around (lazy), though most walk.

Back to Sausalito, we crossed the grand Golden Gate bridge. The area was foggy which made it look even more grand and majestic. We went under the gigantic supports, which stand tall as a giant, and saw that it stood over the fog. It's not a feeling you can describe. It felt like the bridge was this majestic King ruling over the bay.

We reached Sausalito and smelt the fresh cold air. It was a small island with cute, unique shops and narrow alley ways dotting it. It's my favourite place, including San Francisco, so far on this trip since its so laid back and peaceful, not like the hard and fast environment back home. My favourite place in  Sausalito is between the famous ice cream shop near the ferry pier and the unique t-shirt shop. Although the ice cream shop didn't have a ton of flavour to choose from, their ice cream was flavourful and creamy smooth. The t-shirt shop is unique because they dye their tees with chocolate, recycled cash, candy etc.

I wanted my dad to buy this green, cash dyed shirt that said, "Bank of Dad" on the front and said, "Bank of Dad closed" and on the bottom it read, "Go ask your Mother" on the back. LOL :D Too bad it costed $$$ for a tee.

We went home by ferry, eating our ice cream, and found out that we can take your bikes on a ferry. Interesting. As we sat on the ferry we saw Sausalito in the suns glare, shining and sparkling in the middle of the sea. A beautiful sight to start the day. I couldn't stay still inside the boat so my dad and I went out to the deck. The wind was blowing crazily in my hair, I couldn't see properly. The ride had many jolts as the waves pushed the boat on the side. It was freezing, my ears were dead cold.

But against all that the view was magnificent, beautiful. The was sun shining on the water, glistening. The fog was moving away to reveal Alcatraz, the prison on an island. Now abandoned, only tourist set foot there regularly. The area around it is still hazy. I wonder what secrets lie beyond the prison gates. The city was coming up as the fog was moving. What a sight, undescriable sight. So pretty....... Then to the left, still standing tall and majestic as ever, is the Golden Gate bridge. I can't seem to remember well enough, my minds a little forgetful at times but I do remember I had a great time. A time that I'll treasure.

Fortunately, after we reached the Ferry Building we walked to See's again and it was open. I walked into the store hypnotised by the sight and smells. Ahhh.... the sweet smell of chocolate. I got jumpy again. We got delicious free samples too. In the end we bought 4 Ib worth of chocolate, a jar of toffettes, which are chocolate and almond covered toffees, and peanut brittle. I absolutely LOVE the toffettes, their crunch on the outside and smooth on the inside.

After that we checked out of the hotel and went to get our rental car. There I used a vending machine for the first time in a long time.  Then we drove to L.A. I slept most of the way. Snooze time! Zzzz.... We arrived in L.A around 1AM in the morning.

I'd post pictures but I can't do that on my iPad! I'll post them when I get home. I got real good shots.

That's all for San Francisco. I know it's a really long post and if you made it here, Congratulations! It took me two days to write this. I just found out this morning that I have a science project to do during the holidays. Arrgh. Oh Well...I'm now in Grand Canyon National Park. The Canyon is spectacular, but that's another story.

It's 11:36PM now and we're ready for bed. Night-night sleep tight.

C U next time!
